DT The Artist Brings the Heat with New Soca Single WET Featuring Klassik Frescobar
Toronto-based artist DT The Artist is making waves with his latest single WET, a high-energy collaboration with Klassik Frescobar that’s already charted across multiple Caribbean islands, including Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, and the Cayman Islands. With its infectious carnival vibe and undeniable party energy, WET is quickly becoming an anthem for summer fun.
The Spark Behind the Song
The idea for WET came in the most organic way possible. While in the studio with his engineer 4D, DT found inspiration during a brainstorming session — and a bottle of King Aqua Water. “I thought, what if we do a song where everyone has fun and wets each other? That’s where the concept came from,” he explains. The result is a track that encourages listeners to let loose, celebrate, and cool down with a splash of fun.
Shifting Into Soca Fusion
While DT has previously experimented with soca remixes of his hip-hop songs, WET marks his first original soca release. “This song was written and created as an original soca song,” he shares. His transition into soca was further validated after opening for Motto at Soca Reggae Fest in Winnipeg. “He told me, ‘Bro, I never heard someone rap on soca beats like that. Keep doing your thing.’ That co-sign meant a lot.”
Collaboration with Klassik Frescobar
DT first connected with Klassik Frescobar in Toronto in 2024 through Motto’s manager, Fross. Admiring Klassik’s work ethic, DT knew he wanted to bring him into the project. “I sent him the concept, and he recorded his intro and verse. He communicated with me the whole process and made it easy to work with him.” By the time WET was ready to release, Klassik’s own track Dansa was already dominating soca charts worldwide, making their collaboration even more timely.
A Carnival-Ready Sound
Designed to capture the energy of Caribbean carnival culture, WET has already been embraced by Toronto’s Costume Creators Mas Camp, adopting it as their official anthem for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival. “I wanted a song that could play in any Caribbean Island, or place with Caribbean people, and they get the vibe,” says DT. “Wet fetes are often big events — and this track was made for that.”
Momentum and Growth
For DT, the release of WET reflects not only a new sound but also artistic growth. With Jamaican roots and a Toronto upbringing, his journey into soca fusion feels like a natural progression. “Moving into soca fusion was a big change,” he says. “As I conversed with Klassik Frescobar, I realized I was walking a similar path that he had been walking — starting in hip hop and then moving into soca.”
Fan Response and Chart Success
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans messaging DT about the song’s carnival energy and good vibes. “It’s a great feeling now that it has charted in three different islands,” he reflects. “It tells me people are starting to vibe with it, and cosigning the music.”
What’s Next for WET
To push the track further, DT and his team have been focused on promotion, from eye-catching visuals to live performances. A promotional video, organized by Roc the Designer, features DT and models in colorful swimwear having fun with water guns and bottles. DT has also taken the stage alongside DJ Osocity at Toronto Carnival and performed on the big truck during Toronto Caribbean Carnival. With plans for a full Caribbean tour in 2026, WET is just the beginning of what’s to come.
Looking Ahead
Beyond WET, DT The Artist has big plans. He is working on new collaborations, upcoming performances at events like Caribana in Kitchener and Carifalls in Niagara Falls, and even artist development workshops. He’s also in the process of finishing a book on artist development, further solidifying his role as not only an artist but also a mentor and leader in the industry.
As DT puts it: “Have fun and enjoy life.” That’s the message of WET — and it’s clear his music is doing just that for fans around the world.
