INTERVIEW WITH DJ BOOTERS

1. When and how did you start being a dj?
I started djing about 8 years ago out of high school. I knew for the longest that i had an interest in music but never exactly knew what i wanted to do with it. I always loved hearing dj mixes on the radio and local clubs and always found it very interesting how each dj would transition from one track to the other at the same time creating a vibe for listeners and controlling the atmosphere . From hearing different djs combined with my love for music i wanted to learn how to do this as well. With research i picked up a dj software and a simple dj controller and the rest is history.

2. Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
It varies, being a dj i listen to a lot of music from different genre’s and artists. Hip hop wise i would say DMX, he has always been one of my favorites and currently i would also say Kevin Gates, 2 chainz, Kanye West for sure and Jeezy. Top 40 wise i would say Neyo, Jason Derulo, Bruno Mars andThe Weekend and EDM wise i would say Yellow Claw, Hardwell, Fedde Le Grand. These artist have always just created music that is not only entertaining but also very creative. Id like to say also that i have always admired the producers. I was always one to look up the producers of hottest tracks rather than the artist as i was always more interested on intricately of the beats behind the song because thats what moved me more.

3. When you dj an event how do you feel? Describe those occasions?
When ever i dj an event for some reason i still feel nervous at first. I think this is more of a mental issue because once i press play the dj in me takes over and I’m ready to vibe out with the crowd. Im the type of dj who pays very close attention to the crowed and always plays for the crowd no matter what. The crowd gives off a energy that helps me get the confidence to try new mixes and also vibe out myself.

4. what advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
A good lesson i learned is to be humble and patient and also to be in the scene. Surround yourself with people who have the same interest as you as they will be ones to help you grow. Also as a dj never limit yourself, familiarize your self with all kinds of music.
