Colin Biz Exclusive Interview
Where are you from? and introduce your self.
I'm Colin Biz and I was born in Guyana but raised in Brooklyn, New York - the east ‘90s to be exact. I grew up infatuated with Hip-Hop and the lifestyle it portrayed. I would hear the lyrics from my favorite rappers like Jay Z and Nas and read about them in The Source, XXL, and other publications. It was a chain reaction that started me on this journey into the music business. Over the years, I've taken on every role in entertainment: record label intern, founder of F.A.M. Records, columnist, actor, artist manager, mentor to young aspiring rappers in NYC, and podcaster. All of this shaped me for my forthcoming project, Doreen's Favorite, which captures me telling my life story from the moment I emigrated from Guyana to this current day, and it's set to a remarkable soundtrack.
Is it difficult to be a rapper?
I'm actually not a rapper. I'm an author. Doreen's Favorite is an audio book. Despite the story being told over to amazing production its not rapping.
Who are you inspired by?
I'm inspired by Hip Hop. The culture and the music. The great story tellers like Slick Rick, Jay-Z, Biggie and Nas definitely inspired me. Also, some of the OGs in my hood used to tell some of the dopest stories ever!
What music are you pushing right now? where can readers find you and your music.
I'm currently pushing the entire audio book, Doreen's Favorite. It's the first audio book you can actually bump in your whip and look cool! Despite me not rapping the whole album is a vibe.
What makes you different from a lot of artist? There isn't much a difference but a style. Hip hop derived from the stoop, the block, the porch, the barbershop, the lunchroom or just posting up with ya boys telling dope stories in the hood. I took all of that, sort of like gumbo and turned in to something amazing!
I've always been told that I tell great stories and adding music to it made it even more spectacular.Tell us about your upcoming project.
I'm currently working on a small visual for a chapter in the book. I'm real excited about this one.
What is your biggest accomplishment as a rapper?
The release of Doreen's Favorite has been my biggest accomplishment. Everything happened perfectly. There were times that I questioned everything but now I just let it flow because I know it's god's plan. I'm blessed.
Any message to your fans?
I don't like the word fans. Everyone that's down with me is a Supporter. Shout out to all of my supporters, I appreciate you.
