EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
DULA-MITE

 Q. WHERE ARE YOU FROM?AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF.

My name is Dula-Mite aka Pen Franklin. I am from & currently reside in Las Vegas, NV.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DULA-MITE

Q. WHAT FIRST GOT YOU INTO MUSIC?

I grew up on 28th Street in East Las Vegas in an extremely dysfunctional & abusive household.  Growing up in that type of surrounding automatically puts you in survivor mode and it gives you two choices: 1. Fall for the peer pressure and join a gang or 2. Deal drugs. I decided to do neither because I felt safer in the streets than I did at home, didn't make sense to feel unsafe at home and in the streets. So I needed to get away, I needed to find some form of expression to be able to keep my sanity. So I chose the entertainment field. Hip-Hop absolutely saved my life, it allows me to express myself and honestly I love the attention. I love the 5 elements of Hip-Hop & I honor them. Without music I would be lost, period.

Q. WHO INSPIRED YOU TO MAKE MUSIC?

My first inspiration was my older brother Omar. We would get in trouble if we simply forgot to dump the trash, which means we were always grounded. So we spent a lot of time with each other until he ran away from home at the age of 16. He would write rhymes and spit them to me and even though they were wack, I looked at him like he was Jay-Z, simply because I didn't know any better.

But as far as my absolute first inspiration it had to be Jay-Z, I always loved his fashion sense, the way he could change his flow at the drop of a dime, most importantly he has always adapted with the times. Jay, Nas & Snoop have allowed Hip-Hop to age like the Rock N Roll genre, they've allowed us to see a person's growth through music and their actions.

Q. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE MUSIC THAT YOU TYPICALLY CREATE?

I'm a really versatile emcee, but I definitely chose to make music that has subject matters, songs that have a story, substance & content.
I like for my music to create conversations. I try to be so versatile that you can listen to my album on a road trip, while you're cooking or cleaning and even have songs that you can play at the club. The greats have always had that type of versatility and I wanna be remembered as one of the greats.

Q. WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE?

I'm extremely picky when it comes to beats/production. I can sit in the studio all day and listen to 100 beats and only choose 3 to record with. I take my time on my music, I've always believed in Quality over Quantity.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DULA-MITE

Timeless music still matters to me, making classic albums still matter. So I've never rushed making music, I let the beat talk to me and give me the subject matter by basically vibing to it. I'll even study some subject matters I wanna make a song about for months before I actually write a song about it, just so I can educate myself on the topic.

Q. IF YOU COULD GO OPEN A SHOW FOR ANY ARTIST WHO WOULD IT BE?

ay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Drake, Busta Rhymes, Schoolboy Q, Wale etc.
Too many to name, but I would love to rock any crowd, hell I would open for Taylor Swift or Garth Brooks.

Q. TELL US ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING PROJECT.

The New Album is Entitled Respect The Elohim. Which basically for me means: Respect me as a GAWD EMCEE.
Every album I make I wanna show my growth and maturity. Display my songwriting ability & for once get my proper respect as a Top tier Westcoast Artist. Going forward I am only making albums that feel like a movie. I want listeners to try to vision everything being said in these songs. The New Album will be available on all platforms April 8th!

Q. 8. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

I have officially released my clothing line Fresh Academy Cloths, you can go to
and check that out.

I will be releasing two EP's entitled Slick Talk Vol. 1 & 2. I'm also looking to go on tour this Summer or Fall.

Q.  IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE
INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Simple answer, I wish the
industry actually signed or looked for artists who are actually talented. I wish Artist Development was still important.

Q.  WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU PUSHING RIGHT NOW?
WHERE CAN READERS FIND YOU AND YOUR MUSIC?
